At the Google for India 2022, the tech giant announced a slew of initiatives for the Indian market. Among the many features announced, there’s one that is bound to catch the fancy of Android users. Google has announced that it is partnering with the National e-Governance Division and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).
In a blog post, Google India team said that many users store multiple documents and images of Aadhaar, PAN cards, and driver’s licenses on their phones. Now, this could be anything including availing crucial government services – like filling out an online passport form or signing up for citizen benefit schemes.
Digilocker comes to Android’s Files app
Google is now making it easier for people to give easy access to their authentic digital documents, directly from the Files by Google app on Android. Google will bring Digilocker-verified documents directly onto the Files by Google App for Android users. With this feature, people can quickly and safely organise their most-used documents on their smartphones for easy and private access on the go, said Google in the blog post.
Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President, Google India, said in a blog post that for Google security is at the core of its product strategy. “With the unprecedented growth in India’s internet adoption, and people’s reliance on digital in their everyday lives, the work we do to keep people safe online has never been as important as it is today. We are deepening the role of AI in helping respond to complex and shape-shifting cybersecurity challenges at scale, whether it is detecting malware and phishing, auto denying spam transactions, blocking bad content, or preventing spam messages.”
Abhishek Singh, President & CEO, NeGD and MyGov, MD & CEO, Digital India Corporation, said “With easy access to authentic digital documents, DigiLocker facilitates the speedy delivery of government benefits across financial inclusion, education, health initiatives and more. The government recognises the role of key partnerships, and Google is an important and responsible tech player in the country that continues to offer helpful products and services to millions of Indians. We expect that DigiLocker’s integration and partnership on Android will drive smoother and ubiquitous access to digitised documents in a safe and secure manner for all our users.”
