In Dodge County, Wisconsin, county managers sought to modernize their IT infrastructure with faster, more reliable backups and restores. In addition, they were aware that cyberattacks had devasting impacts on other county and city governments, and they wanted to bolster the protection for their critical workloads in a way that protected them from attacks and enabled them to recover from such an attack if one occurred. just wasn’t giving them the performance or confidence they needed.

Avamar, along with PowerProtect DD series appliances, is handling the daily backup duties for the county’s VMware environment, while Cyber Recovery gives the community a new level of security and confidence when it comes to protection from cyber threats.

According to Josh Kohlhoff, Network Administrator for Dodge County, the speed at which the combination of Avamar and PowerProtect DD perform backups has been beyond expectations. In fact, Dodge County has reduced their backup time by 90%. “We are much, much quicker than we ever were before with our previous product and we’re extremely happy with that,” remarked Kohlhoff.

Just as Avamar and PowerProtect DD gave administrators a lot of their time back and ensured data restores, Cyber Recovery gave them an even greater peace of mind with regards to potential cyberattacks. Cyber Recovery takes the most critical data and locks it away in an air-gapped vault. “Let’s face it, nobody likes to be in the paper for a cyber breach, and the PowerProtect Cyber Recovery solution was a great way for us to give our data another level of protection. We felt that with the Cyber Recovery solution, we would have that layer of protection that a lot of organizations probably do not,” said Kohlhoff. His team is also taking advantage of CyberSense to search that backed up data for malicious content. This is a level of confidence – 99.5% – the team has not seen before.
